I have seen precisely 3 in my 24 years in Australia, in 89, 92 and 95.

The oddest sighing was a single bird was hawking for insects late at night
against the lighted face of the Centra Hotel in North Sydney. It was feeding
well and I watched it for an hour. I decided that it was an Owlet Nightjar
based upon size and by a process of elimination.
