Jim and Norman at Faraday's Apprentice Site
Jim Croll and Norman pointing to the sign that says Michael Faraday
apprenticed here. This is in London, near Regent's Park. Taken in Sept
1998. Jim and Norman greatly admire Faraday because he was a genius in
visual imagery and intuition. Faraday hardly knew any formal
mathematics, yet his physical intuitions were so powerful that he could
deduce the laws of electromagnetism from his clever experiments. He
gave us the notions of flux, of induction, etc., that Maxwell later
formulated into succinct axioms. It is probable that Faraday's
intuitions were not equalled until Einstein came on the scene with his
amazing gedanken (thought) experiments on relativity and gravitation.
