Before commencing, you should consider improving on your interview and resume writing skills. The Careers and Employment unit on campus provides excellent free workshops almost everyday of the week during semester. I believe students can make appointments to speak with a consultant on a one-to-one basis in order to polish that all important resume or covering letter.
I cannot emphasize to you the importance of getting that covering letter and resume perfect. Employers simply do not have the time to read volumes and if you cannot catch their attention within a few paragraphs, you simply don't stand a chance. A poorly expressed letter that contains spelling errors is unforgivable and does not make a good impression.
This is the The Association of Professional Engineers, Scientists and Managers, Australia (APESMA) and they provide a wide range of services to help students and graduate engineers. It is an organization well worth joining and since you're a student membership is free.
