Industrial Training Pay Rates

You should expect to be paid for your IT at a rate comparable to your qualification and experience.  As a general guideline, your pay can be related to the remuneration of a graduate engineer on a sliding scale as shown below.   A newly graduated engineer may typically expect a salary of around $55,000 per annum.

Year 4 prior to graduation
  80% - 100%
End of Year 3
  60% - 80%
End of Year 2
  40% - 60%

There is no industrial award for work experience, however, some employers may negotiate your placement under a sub-professional award to suit their employment conditions and your personal experiences or skills. Remember not to sell yourself short, but at the same time do not make claims you cannot substantiate. Negotiating a suitable pay rate can be difficult and it is important to learn from the experience.
