Bill Jolley recently wrote " ...An interesting few
days for the Abberton (=Lockyer Valley,QLD) list, with Swift Parrots at the
north end of their range and Magpie Geese and White-throated Honeyeaters pretty
close to their southern bounday,...."
Since the mid 1980s Magpie Geese have
re-established themselves in NSW, and are known to extend all the way down
the NSW coast to Newcastle and across to the Macquarie Marshes in central NSW,
with occasional flocks seen in the Riverina. Large resident flocks occur in the
Richmond, Clarence & Hunter valleys, the Macquarie Marshes, the Gwydir
River wetlands near Moree & occasionally Narran Lake. Unfortunately
maybe the latest field guide still take their maps from HANZAB, which in the
case of the Magpie Gese is woefully out of date. In addition The White-throated
Honeyeater, extends down the NSW Coast to about Coffs Harbour. So that the
Lockyer Valley is not near the southern limit of either of these two species
ranges
