Some snippets for people interested in birds and other wildlife
around here.
There are two Boobooks in the foreshore at present (at the Jim
Willis - Brighton Dunes - Reserve and near the Trey Bit oval in
Sandringham, the latter having roosted most days in one or
another of 4 closely-grouped she-oaks ). Roy Wheeler, in the
1949 Bird Observer notes, mentioned boobooks wintering in this
area - they still do (they are sometimes here in summer too).
One Spiny-cheeked Honeyeater is hanging around, perhaps waiting
for the late blossoming Tree Lucerne to provide some energy.
Rikki Rakali is very cuddly, about 180 cm high, and sometimes
appears at community events.
