Hi birding-ausers,

I have just returned from a quick trip to the Kimberley .

Some top birds seen were :

16 species of Honeyeater including

Grey headed Ellery Ck, Alice Springs
Black chinned Tanami track
Grey fronted Ellery Ck, Alice Springs
White gaped Fitzroy Crossing
Rufous throated Broome Bird Observatory
Red headed Broome Bird Observatory
Banded Gibb River Road Half way along somewhere at a roadside stop
White-throated El Questro

These were all new birds for me.

Others lifers seen were :

Square -tailed Kite Kulgera
Black-breasted Buzzard Tanami track
Letter-winged Kite Tanami track
White-Quilled Rock Pigeon Bungles
Gull-billed Tern Broome Bird Observatory
Yellow White-eye Broome Bird Observatory
Eastern Curlew Broome Bird Observatory
Masked Finch El Questro
Northern Fantail El Questro
Masked Woodswallow Kununurra
and what looked like a juvenile Grey Heron at the Territory Wildlife Park at Berry Springs ( perhaps Niven could enlighten me further about this sighting ). It was distinctly Grey with the darker patches going down the front of the whiteish neck.

The best sighting for the trip for me was seeing the Black-chinned HE on the NT/WA border on the Tanami. I have not seen them here in Adelaide yet although they are about. The Banded HE on the Gibb River Road was also hard to beat as well as the BBBuzzard and the LWKite on the Tanami track.

109 species were seen without actively seeking them out. There were also quite a few tantailising glimpses of birds as they quickly flew by. One of thes may have been a Grey honeyeater on the Stuart Highway below the Alice towards northern SA but I could not be sure.

Cheers,

Peter.
