Deb,
in Castlecrag, a northern Sydney suburb, a Pacific Baza was attacked
and killed by five Ravens a month or two ago. The birds were all on
the ground but I am not aware whether the Ravens had forced the Baza
down or whether they had found it at ground-level.

Hello all,
This isn't something I've heard of before and I'd be
interested if anyone else had. We have had the scope
trained on a TF nest last year and again this year,
from our lounge window. Two young hatched two weeks
ago and were doing well. Yesterday I was preparing to
go to work and a noise started up in the trees; I
looked through the scope to see two Aus. Ravens
heading towards the nest, both parents were going mad,
hissing and flapping, but one of the ravens grabbed a
chick and flew off with it.
I dived up the paddock to see if it might have dropped
it, but no such luck. When I got home last night the
nest had been abandoned. There were 2 young so I don't
know what happened to the other one; last year a
goanna tried to get to the nest, so maybe they've gone
to look for somewhere better. After the raven had
gone, I could hear calling from the TFs and hopefully
they'll try again as they successfully fledged 2 young
last year.
At the weekend a Swamp Harrier several times tried to
remove a duckling from the dam and eventually
succeeded. 'Nature, red in tooth and claw'!
