Enjoyed a few hours around Gold Creek Reservoir (west Brisbane) this morning with Pete Kyne and Seb (second name escapes me even though he is moving into my share house today). The morning started off very damp but whilst sheltering under some trees on the access road (100m before the locked gate at the end of the road) we managed to see all three local Monarchs (2 Spectacled, 2 Black-faced and a single White-eared Monarch). We have been doing pretty well for White-eared Monarchs in the last month with two (including a young bird) further along the Gold Creek road (about 300m from the locked gate), several sightings of single birds at Moggill State Forest and Seb picked one whilst fishing near Noosa.

Also at Gold Creek this morning were at least 6 Barred Cuckoo-shrike (at the very end of the Gold Creek road) and and a Bush-hen with three young at the small creek on the way to the reservoir wall.

Cheers Dan
