IT Development Internship

Position Description:

Who we are

As a leading, independent, global market-making group we aim to be the go to price engine for exchange traded products. Our work is fast paced and changes all the time. Our success is due to our people so we strive to create an environment where people's contributions are valued, where teamwork is encouraged and where people can work on fresh and interesting challenges every day. Join our software development team and work on one or two projects to find out exactly what it's like to work here as an engineer. We believe that joining a team and working on real world problems is the best way to experience life here, and to gain the most experience.

What you'll do:

At Optiver we have no shortage of interesting and important work to do, so you can be assured you'll be working on something that will add real value to the business. Some of the things you could be involved in are:

Exchange connectivity software & Auto Trading related projects (C++)
Trading client GUIs or Middle Office systems (C#/.NET)
Tools to aid development and management of our systems (C++/C#/Python)

You will have the unique experience of joining cross team meetings, social events and technical sessions across other teams to get a broader view of our business.

The experience wouldn't be complete without some direct work with our software in production. You'll spend some time with our Applications Engineering team, managing our production environment, making releases and changes, and interacting directly with the Traders. You might even get to see something you've built during your time here out in the wild!

We'll assign you a mentor, so although there's a lot to learn, you'll have a friendly face to help you out.

What will you take away?

You'll experience hands on software development in a fast paced, real world environment. You'll see the process from inception to production, and you'll be working with people from all parts of the business from your fellow engineers to senior Traders. When you have completed the twelve week program, you may be offered a full-time graduate position with Optiver upon graduating.

Position Type: Undergraduate Students Postgraduate Students

Selection Criteria: Who you are

You are a penultimate year student with a high credit / distinction average in Computer Science, Computing, and Software Engineering or similar. Some experience in Shell scripting, such as Bash or Perl, would be brilliant.

What you're like

You are a creative person who's brilliant at making smart decisions and even better at communicating them.
