Technical Implementation / System Administrator Internship

Position Description:

NASDAQ OMX sponsors a 14 weeks Summer Internship Program in Australia. This is a paid summer internship program targeted to rising university juniors, seniors and graduate students who have shown a commitment to academic excellence and an interest in the financial services industry.
The 2014 Summer Internship Program will run from 24th of November 2014 to 27th February 2015.

The Summer Internship Program is an important element in NASDAQ OMX's efforts to recruit and develop a premier workforce. Our internships provide selected students with the opportunity to apply traditional academic classroom learning to actual work experience.
The Program is competitive, with a limited number of opportunities available each summer in NASDAQ OMX business units located in Sydney.

Summer Interns will work on assigned tasks or projects in a specific NASDAQ OMX business unit for a period of 14 weeks. Each Summer Intern's assignment and responsibilities will vary. In addition to their specific assignments, Summer Interns will have the opportunity to participate in training, seminars and other events designed to enhance their overall knowledge of the financial services industry. They meet with experts in their field and see their work make a difference.

Part of our team building the Market Surveillance solution for regulators, you will be working on the following:
* Build out a new production environment in a new region. You will be a part of a team building out a new production environment for our customers. The environment is of highest corporate standard and you will come across all functions from application, virtualization, network, storage, OS (UNIX), security and monitoring.
* Auditing and composing documentation. As per corporate standards the need for documentation of any project is essential. You will partake in Nasdaq OMX's documentation procedures to ensure good knowledge transfer.
* Participating in meetings and brainstorming sessions in regards to process improvements. As an important asset for the project you will find yourself in meetings with peers within the organisation where you will have a chance to bring your ideas of improvement to the table.

At the end of the internship you can expect the following:
• Real experience in a major technology project.
• Increased knowledge in multiple technology areas, taught and instructed by Senior representatives.
• Insight in project management from a major technology company
• You will have worked across a wide range of teams such as QA, Developers, Business Analysts and Operations.
• Acquired a good understanding of trade surveillance technology.
• Working first hand with clients for requirement gathering and specification mapping.
• Working with an Agile-driven team utilizing various project management methodologies.

Selection Criteria: Requirements:
• Rising uni juniors, seniors or graduate students pursuing degrees in Computer Science.
• Distinction Average as a minimum
• Average UNIX knowledge. RedHat and CentOS distributions.
• Basic network skills, experience with Cisco IOS is a plus.
• Virtualisation knowledge, VMware's product suite in particular is a plus.
• Basic knowledge of data storage and SAN technologies.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written
• Well organized with ability to plan and complete multiple projects at once.
• Orientation to detail
• Highly motivated with evidence of intellectual curiosity and creativity
• Ability to respond productively to a heavy workload and tight deadlines
