Systems Admin (Operations) Internship

Position Description:

NASDAQ OMX sponsors a 14 weeks Summer Internship Program in Australia. This is a paid summer internship program targeted to rising university juniors, seniors and graduate students who have shown a commitment to academic excellence and an interest in the financial services industry. The 2014 Summer Internship Program will run from 24th of November 2014 to 27th February 2015.

The Summer Internship Program is an important element in NASDAQ OMX's efforts to recruit and develop a premier workforce. Our internships provide selected students with the opportunity to apply traditional academic classroom learning to actual work experience.

The Program is competitive, with a limited number of opportunities available each summer in NASDAQ OMX business units located in Sydney.

Summer Interns will work on assigned tasks or projects in a specific NASDAQ OMX business unit for a period of 14 weeks. Each Summer Intern's assignment and responsibilities will vary. In addition to their specific assignments, Summer Interns will have the opportunity to participate in training, seminars and other events designed to enhance their overall knowledge of the financial services industry. They meet with experts in their field and see their work make a difference.

Part of our team operating our SAAS Market Surveillance solution for Brokers, you will be working alongside the global Operations team on day-to-day tasks as well as on "special projects" to help improve the Operations function, including
• Review of current documentation and monitoring for gaps and inconsistencies and help close and rectify those
• Be involved in day-to-day operations as reviewer to ensure minimisation of human errors
• Investigate new tools and approaches to help increase efficiency of the current operations function
At the end of the internship you can expect the following:
• Acquiring basic understanding of operating a commercial SAAS platform in the finance industry servicing 80+ large brokers / investment banks
• Acquiring a basic understanding of underlying operational principles and procedures such as software configuration management, incident and problem management, monitoring and capacity planning

Selection Criteria: Requirements:
• Computer Science student
• Passion for system administration in a Unix environment including scripting
• Strong interest in networking
• Some development background in Java
• Interest in software architecture, system operations and information security
• Good written English
• Strong problem solving, analytical approach
• Strong attention to detail

Salary: Legal Minimum Wage
