Description: |
Participatory sensing is a revolutionary new paradigm where people voluntarily sense their environment and share this information using pre-existing communication infrastructure such as mobile phones. Today's mobile phones are equipped with a wide range of sensors such as microphones, cameras, GPS and accelerometers, thus enabling exciting citizen sensing applications in intelligent transportation, environment monitoring, public health and social networking. This project proposes to create a wiki of street level pictures, which are captured by ordinary citizens walking/driving around cities using their mobile phones. The idea is to stitch pictures from multiple contributors to create a real-time mash up of how the city looks like. The Wiki-StreetView will be useful for a variety of applications: street-level view for driving, updating GIS databases will new points of interest, urban surveillance, location-based services, etc |
