Description:
This thesis is to explore the performance of various implementations of synchronisation primitives on a micro-kernel.

At a high-level, the thesis will look at what is needed from the microkernel to support POSIX-style synch primitives - practically, the project involves porting POSIX threads to seL4 threads. We expect there to be a trade-off between microkernel changes and specialisation, and use of general user-level implementation approaches. The thesis will attempt to quantify this trade-off by benchmarking competing implementations.
