- For any of these kinds of problems you should firstly have a look in the FAQ.
If your answer is not in the FAQ, you should look in the ask and help mail alias archives (ask is the current list to use).
If your answer isn't there either, contact the Helpdesk, where the trained staff can help you with your problems.

- Problems with dial-up access from home
- If you are having problems connecting through the University modem pool (UDUS), you should contact the DIS-Connect people directly.
Staff, Undergraduate Thesis and Research Postgraduate students should use the School's modem pool for dial-up access.
- Any emergency, crime or threat to your safety
- Call campus security: extension 6666 (or 9385 6666).
Personal difficulties or problems coping with university generally
- UNSW has an excellent Counselling Service which provides free and confidential counselling to students of the University. Its professional counsellors are experienced in assisting students with personal difficulties such as relationship problems, anxiety and depression. You can make an appointment by phoning 9385-5418 or find them in the 2nd Floor, East Wing, Quadrangle Building.

UNSW has many services for students. A list is available on the web or get a copy of the Student Guide from the Student Centre.-
- Problems with your enrolment or with degree requirements
- The kind and helpful people in the Student Office can assist you with these difficulties.

- Sickness or other problems affecting a subject
If sickness or other problems cause you to miss part of a subject (e.g. an exam) or significantly affect your work you should apply for special consideration at the Student Centre.-
- Problems with a COMP courses
(stuck with an assignment, can't understand lectures etc.)
- Contact your lecturer. The web page for your course should list consultation times and locations. If these aren't suitable use the e-mail addresses listed on the web page to contact the lecturer or administrator.

- Urgent problems with a COMP courses
- If you have urgent problems with a course contact the lecturer directly and if this not possible go to the Student Office.
Note: Urgent problems do not include those which arise when you start on an assignment the day before it is due, or otherwise mismanage your time.
