DISK QUOTA EXCEEDED
This common problem occurs due to the utilisation of all disk quota allocated to your particular account. A direct consequence of this is the inability to successfully log into a CSE terminal.
To resolve this problem follow the steps listed below on any of the booking terminals located throughout the CSE laboratories (there is one located outside the Help Desk, ME undercroft).
1.Log into the booking terminal using your CSE username and password:
Book login:
Password:
2.At the BOOK> prompt type:
shell
3.At the prompt type:
disk_guess| more
This gives you a list of the biggest files and directories in your account. This command will highlight any core files that may exist in your account. The vast majority of over quota problems can be solved by the removal of any such core files by typing the following at a prompt:
rm core
4.Other files or directories may be responsible for putting your account over quota. To remove files, use the `rm command:
rm filename
To remove a directory and all its contents, use the `rm rf command:
rm rf directoryname
Upon removal of all such large files or directories, you should confirm that your account is once again below disk quota:
rquota
5.Once you are satisfied that you are below disk quota (as indicated by the unit under blocks) type:
exit to leave the xterm console and
exit again to leave the BOOK> prompt.
6.You should now be able to successfully log into an undergraduate CSE machine. If you experience further problems please come to the Help Desk, Mechanical Engineering Undercroft, G03.
