Software Loans

The Help Desk holds several software titles that are available for loan to currently enrolled CSE students. A complete list of titles that are on offer can be found here.

For information about the MSDN Alliance Program, click here.

The ISO's of the available CDs are here.

The list above does not contain all MSDN titles offered by CSE. In the event the MSDN title in question is not in the list above, please consult the CSE mirror site (http://mirror.cse.unsw.edu.au) as this contains a more definitive list. If the title exists on the CSE mirror site, it can be obtained in two ways:

  • By directly downloading the title from the mirror yourself
  • By requesting the Help Desk to create a CD with the software. Once the CD is made, it can be borrowed through the Help Desk like any other software title.

If you believe you require one of the Oracle or WebLogic titles for coursework purposes and you are not part of the above list, your lecturer in charge or relevant academic should send an email to cs9316@cse.unsw.edu.au for WebLogic loans and/ or jls@cse.unsw.edu.au for Oracle CD loans. Either of these two parties will need to send an email to helpdesk@cse.unsw.edu.au so we can add the new course to our loans system or give us permission to override the restriction for your specific use.

Please note that the Help Desk cannot gain these permissions for you, as it is a matter that should be taken up between yourself and the relevant academic.

If you are currently enrolled in a thesis, please ask your thesis supervisor to contact System Support (ss@cse.unsw.edu.au) on your behalf with your requirements.

Loans are provided on a first come first serve basis, for a period of two working days and will only be issued when a valid UNSW student card is cited. In the event that an item is on loan, you will be placed on a waiting list and notified through your CSE email when the item is ready for collection. You will have until the end of the next working day to collect your CD, after which it will be allocated to the next person on the waiting list. Only certain students are eligible to borrow certain titles.

The table below indicates which groups of students are able to borrow the various titles:

The MSDN titles require the use of product keys in order to activate the software on your home PC. Individual product keys are available from System Support (ss@cse.unsw.edu.au) for:

These keys are limited to one per student and requests must be sent from your CSE account. Other titles make use of a generic set of keys. A copy of these keys can be found here (they can also be found at the Help Desk).

Please note: CDs must be returned by the close of the second working day after the loan has been issued. Delays in arranging a key are not considered acceptable grounds for not being able to meet this deadline. CD contents can be copied to your computer without a product key and installed once you have arranged for one.
