DEFINITION
|
ACADEMIC GROUP
|
A major funding/management grouping with UNSW. eg. Faculty of Engineering - ENG.
|
ACADEMIC ORGANISATION
|
A sub-group of an academic group responsible for research and teaching in a specific discipline. eg. School of Computer Science and Engineering - COMPSC.
|
CAREER
|
A grouping of all academic work undertaken by a student eg. Postgraduate - PGRD.
|
PROGRAM
|
What the student applies to, is admitted into and ultimately graduates from eg. 8543 Master of Information Technology.

PLAN
|
Plans are specialisations - major or minor area of study, eg.
- COMPAS8543 MIT - Artificial Intelligence
- COMPBS8543 MIT - Bioinformatics
- COMPCS8543 MIT - Information Technology
- COMPDS8543 MIT - Database Systems
- COMPES8543 MIT - e-Commerce Systems
- COMPIS8543 MIT - Internetworking
- COMPKS8543 MIT - Knowledge Systems and Data Mining
Plans appear on the academic statement and final degree testamur.

SUBJECT
|
Subject area or topic. For example, all COMP courses are grouped within the computer science and engineering subject.

COURSE
|
A discrete unit of instruction in an area of study forming part of the requirements for a program, eg. COMP9021 Principles of Programming.
|
CLASS
|
Lecture, lab, tutorial has a class number which you use to enrol.
|
COURSE AUTHORITY
|
The School which offers, administers, and teaches a course, or the lecturer in charge of a course.
|
PROGRAM AUTHORITY
|
The School or Faculty that offers and administers a program.
|
SEMESTER
|
Has start and end dates that confirm with the typical 2 semester academic year and which have census dates of 31 March and 31 August.
|
TEACHING PERIOD
|
Within a semester there may be two 6 week teaching periods (T1A or T1B). In the School of CSE, courses are generally 12 weeks and run in T1. |
