TITLE: Advanced Biomedical Informatics Applications: Extraction and Use of Knowledge from Biomedical Images and Text
PRESENTER: Sameer Antani, http://archive.nlm.nih.gov/staff/antani.php, santani@mail.nih.gov
AFFILIATION:Lister Hill National Center for Biomedical Communications, National Library of Medicine/NIH, http://archive.nlm.nih.gov

TIME: 12:00:00
PLACE: CSE Seminar Room, Level 1, K17
ABSTRACT:
We are witnessing an increasing influence of imaging on clinical
medicine and medical research. Along with large image repositories,
databases also hold significant text information drawn from patient
records, health studies, and relevant research articles. A need for
R&D in extraction and use of knowledge from these heterogeneous, but
related, information archives is underscored. In my talk, I will
present some of the research in this area done at the Lister Hill
National Center for Biomedical Communications, an intramural R&D
division of the U.S. National Library of Medicine which is a part of
the U.S. National Institutes of Health. I will describe our work on
Biomedical Multimedia Database Systems, Content-Based Image Retrieval,
and Image and Text Integration.
BIOGRAPHY OF SPEAKER:
Dr. Sameer Antani is a Staff Scientist with the Lister Hill National
Center for Biomedical Communications, an intramural R&D division of the
National Library of Medicine, at the National Institutes of Health.
He conducts research on various topics in content-based image retrieval,
medical multimedia databases, next-generation interactive documents, and
advanced multimodal medical document retrieval. He earned his Master of
Engineering and PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from the
Pennsylvania State University in 1998 and 2001, respectively. He earned
his Bachelors degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Pune,
