Conference Involvement / Keynote and Talks / Committee / Invites

  • Sanjay attended ACM Sigcomm 2011 in Toronto, Canada. He also received invitation to give a talk at the First International Conference on Wireless Technologies for Humanitarian Relief (ACWR2011, cosponsored by both IEEE and ACM,www.amrita.edu/acwr2011/) scheduled in Kerala, India on December 18-21, 2011.

  • Congratulations to Salil are now a Senior Member of the ACM. Salil will serve as the Publication Chair for the 13th International Conference on Mobile Data Management (IEEE MDM 2012) to be in Bengaluru, India in July 2011, TPC for IEEE WONS 2012 and IEEE ANTS 2011 and will participate in the COST management committee meeting in Lisbon, Portugal in October 2011.

  • Mahbub served as a TPC member for the IEEE International Workshop on Smart Grid Communications and Networks (SG-COMNETS 2011) to be held in conjunction with GLOBECOM 2011, December 5-9 2011, Houston, USA.

  • Salil will deliver a tutorial on "Internet Access under High-Speed Mobility" at the 17th IEEE Conference on Networking (IEEE ICON 2011) in Singapore, December 2011.

  • Mahbub delivered a Keynote Speech titled "A Geointelligence Framework to Cope with Bandwidth Uncertainty in Vehicular Internet Access" at the 12th ACIS International Conference on Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Networking and Parallel/Distributed Computing (SNPD 2011), 6 - 8 July, 2011, University of Technology Sydney, [http://acis.cps.cmich.edu/SNPD2011/Keynote%20Abstract.pdf]

  • Chun Tung has been invited to participate in the CSIRO project on "Distributed Sparse Approximation for Wireless Sensor Perception"

  • Congratulations to Salil on becoming a Senior Member of the IEEE.

  • Sanjay invited by the IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing EIC to continue for an additional two years as an associate editor to serve out the full five-year term.

  • Salil is serving as the Chair for the Sensor Networks Symposium at the ISSNIP 2011 conference to be held in Adelaide in December 2011, publicity chair for IEEE WiMob 2011 (Shanghai, China) and ACM MSWiM 2011 (Miami, USA), TPC for EWSN 2012, Editorial Board (Associate Editor) for Elsevier's European Transaction on Telecommunications.

  • Mahbub Hassan invited to serve on the TPC of the following:
    - IEEE VNC 2011 (Vehicular Networking Conference), to be held in November 2011 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
    - IEEE PIMRC 2011 (Intelligent Transportation Networks Track), to be held in September 2011 in Toronto.
    - IEEE WIVEC 2011, to be held in conjunction with IEEE VTC Fall in September 2011 in San Francisco.

  • Salil will present a tutorial on participatory sensing at the IEEE Mobile Data Management Conference to be held in Lulea, Sweden in June 2011.

  • Internet Access under High-Speed Mobility, Mahbub Hassan and Salil Kanhere http://www.ieeevtc.org/vtc2011fall/tutorials.php , half-a-day tutorial proposal got accepted at IEEE VTC 2011 Fall, to be held in September in San Francisco.

  • Salil will present a tutorial on Participatory Sensing at IEEE VTC Spring to be held in Budapest in May 2011.

  • Sanjay is part of the OC (proposed TPC Co-chair) for the successful bid to host the  IEEE International Conference on Communications, ICC 2014, in Sydney.

  • Sanjay invited to the TPC of ICDCN 2012 (13th International Conference on Distributed Computing and Networking) (http://icdcn2012.comp.polyu.edu.hk/)

  • Sanjay  invited SIGCOMM education workshop to be held with ACM Sigcomm 2011.

  • Salil will deliver a tutorial titled "People-Centric Sensing: Crowdsourcing Data from Mobile Smartphones in Urban Spaces" at the following conferences:
    (i) IEEE Internet Multimedia Systems, Architectures and Applications (IMSAA 2010) in Bangalore, India, December 2010.
    (ii) Baltic Conference on Future Internet Communications (BCFIC 2011) in Riga, Latvia, February 2011.

  • Salil will serve as the publication co-chair for IEEE WiMob 2011 to be held in Hong Kong in October 2011 and the demo chair for IEEE LCN 2011 to be held in Bonn, Germany in October 2011.

  • Salil served as the General Sensor Network Symposium Co-Chair for ISSNIP 2010, held in Brisbane from 7-10 Dec 2010.

  • Sanjay requested to give invited talk at the Workshop on Sensor-Enabled Situational Awareness held in conjunction with 12th International Conference on Distributed Computing and Networking (ICDCN 2011), Jan. 2011, Bangalore, India.

  • Sanjay delivered keynote at the Second Australia-China Information and Communication Summit in Hobart on 17 -19 Nov and ISSNIP in Brisbane (8th December 08).

  • Mahbub attended Dagstuhl Seminar on Inter-Vehicle Communications, Dagstuhl, Germany, 3-6 October 2010.

  • Salil has been invited to serve as the co-chair of the Vehicular Communications Symposium at ACM IWCMC 2011 (http://iwcmc.org/).

  • Sanjay invited to the TPC for EWSN 2011, Bonn, Germany and Steering Committee of ISSNIP’10, Brisbane.

  • Sanjay invited as a keynote speaker (Sensors and Sensor Networks) area to the Second Australia-China Information and Communication Summit in Hobart on 17 -19 Nov (as part of the Broadband for Society Summit).

  • Sanjay has been invited to TPCs of ICC'11AHSN Symposium, ATNAC10 and ICDCN11.

  • Salil will serve as the publicity co-chair for the 13th ACM MSWIM conference.

  • Mahbub Hassan:

  • Salil Kanhere:
    - invited to participate in the panel - "MetroSensing: Opportunities and Challenges for a Smarter City" at COMSNET 2010 in Bangalore, India in Jan 2010.

  • Salil is serving as the TPC co-chair for the 2nd IEEE International Workshop on Vehicular Networking (VON 2009).

Travel

  • Mahbub: attended ICC 2011 in Kyoto, Japan in June and gave a seminar at Osaka University.

  • Salil attended IFIP Networking 2011 in Valencia, Spain and IEEE VTC Spring in Budapest, Hungary. Salil is currently visiting Technical University Darmstadt in Germany.

  • Salil attended the EU-COST Wireless Networking for Moving Objects Management Committee Meeting and the co-located Baltic Conference for Future Internet Communications in Riga, Latvia. He also visited Uppsala University in Sweden and Technical University Darmstadt in Germany.

  • Brian Huang has commenced an internship at NEC Kansai Research Labs in Nara, Japan. He will be at NEC till July 2011.

  • Salil visited and gave research talks at the following research laboratories in the Kansai region near Osaka, Japan in the first week of Feb 2010 - (i) NEC C&C Innovation Research Laboratories (CCIL), (ii) NEC Communications Systems (NCOS) and (iii) Advanced Telecommunications and Research Institute (ATRI)

  • Salil spent two weeks at Technical University Darmstadt in Germany. While in Europe, Salil also visited the following institutes for research discussions and seminars: (i) KTH Stockholm, (ii) Lulea University of Technology and (iii) Huawei European Research Centre.

  • Salil spent 3 weeks with the Multimedia Communications Lab (KOM) at Technical University Darmstadt. He gave research talks at KOM, NEC Labs Europe in Heidelberg and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.

  • Salil,  Mahbub and Jun Yao attended ACM Mobisys in Krakow Poland  from 22  - 25 June, 2009.

  • Salil attended the following conferences -(i) IEEE LCN in Denver, USA  (ii) ACM MSWiM in Bodrum, Turkey and (iii) ISSNIP in Brisbane.

Awards

  • Salil has received an Australian Academy of Science Award for collaboration with the EU COST Wireless Networking for Moving Objects (WiNeMO) Action. UNSW is now a formal non-EU member of this program.

Visits

  • Dr Vishwesh Kulkarni (vishewshk@cse.unsw.edu.au) visited for 10 weeks from IIT-Bombay (2010).

  • Prof. Bijendra Jain from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi visited NRL for a week in June 2009.

Media

  • You would have noticed a lot of media release on a course jointly launched by CSE/EET in collaboration with Cisco Systems on Network Architecture (GSOE9758). The Australian also interviewed Sanjay and an article may appear in their Professional section in coming weeks (possibly post election).

Outreach
