COMPA13968 - Computer Science/Bachelor of Arts

Program Overview

With this combined degree program, students can add a Bachelor of Arts program to the standard, professionally accredited BSc in Computer Science program offered by the School of Computer Science and Engineering. All Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences majors within program 3403 are available.

Students who meet the entry requirements for the BSc in Computer Science program 3978 and for the Bachelor of Arts program 3400 may apply to enter the combined Bachelor of Science (Computer Science)/ Bachelor of Arts program.

In addition to the BSc in Computer Science program 3978, students must complete a minimum of 84 units of credit in Arts and Social Science courses, including a major sequence of 42 units of credit in an approved area. The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences must approve the Arts component while the School of Computer Science and Engineering will approve the final program and schedule.

The award of Honours in either the Arts or Computer Science program requires at least one further year of study.

Program Structure

Each course runs for 12 weeks during semester one (S1) or semester 2 (S2). UOC denotes Units of Credit, a measure of the amount of work required in a course. The following structure is a guide only and students can create their own program structure while ensuring they fulfill the requirements - it is advised that students plan their program by first checking pre-requisite courses.

General Education

UNSW wants all students to develop skills in a broad range of areas, not just in their specific study discipline, and so students in all degrees are required to undertake a number of general studies courses outside their discipline. It may not be possible for Computer Science students to enrol in general education courses that are similar in content to the courses offered in the Computer Science degree.
