The Faculty of Engineering at UNSW is the pre-eminent engineering faculty in Australasia and offers the widest choice of Bachelor of Engineering degrees. The Faculty is at the forefront of IT education and was the first to offer degrees in computer engineering and software engineering. Combining these strengths in engineering and IT education, the Faculty of Engineering is now offering a comprehensive range of combined Bachelor of Engineering (BE) and Bachelor of Science (BSc) in computer science degrees. These five year degrees are aimed at satisfying the growing need for engineers who are also computing specialists.
The following BE degrees can be combined with a BSc (Computer Science):
| Chemical Engineering |
School of Chemical Engineering & Industrial Chemistry

As part of the BE requirements, students undertake a thesis project in which they spend a substantial part of a year solving a realistic engineering problem. Students in the combined BE BSc (Computer Science) programs are encouraged to work on projects that integrate their expertise in computing with their knowledge of an engineering problem domain. Because these degrees provide an accredited engineering qualification along with a Bachelor of Science on Computer Science, graduates have the flexibility to pursue a career as either a professional engineer or an IT professional.
Admission Requirements:
For entry in the year 2004, admission to the BE BSc (Computer Science) is available to students who have a UAI of 80.10 or greater. Students should apply for the combined degree. Note that it is not possible to combine the BSc in Computer Science with the degrees in Computer Engineering, Bioinformatics or Software Engineering.
