There are up to 3 Summer Scholarships available of the amount of $3,600 each.

It is expected that you will work full-time on the project, i.e. about 40 hours a week from 18/12/00 to 21/12/00 and from 03/01/01 to 21/02/01.

What is the scholarship for?


To assist in cutting edge research on Artificial Intelligence and intelligent web services.

You will work under the supervision of Dr. Achim Hoffmann on a research project involving the development of intelligent systems for the Internet using techniques from Knowledge Acquisition and Natural Language Processing.
If you are in 3rd year of Computer Engineering, combining this work with your 4th year thesis is negotiable.

The projects involve Web programming (preferably in C, C++ or Java) as well as extensive experiments trying to find out how to handle typical text from web pages.

You should have at least a distinction average, and strong programming skills. Please send email as soon as possible to Dr. Achim Hoffmann (achim@cse.unsw.edu.au) and include your academic record as well as other evidence of relevant achievements and skills.
Decisions on the Scholarships will be made on or after 1 December 00.
