Welcome, I am a PhD candidate at UNSW and NICTA in the beautiful city of Sydney under the supervision of Toby Walsh. My general area of interest is in machine learning, software agents and robotics. The focus of my research is in creating smart, personalised systems, that adapt to their users and help them plow through the onslaught of information that our busy, connected lives entail.

Adrian Schönig

Imagine if your mobile phone would know from your calendar data, that you need to be at work for a meeting at 9am and that you usually take the bicycle to work. While you enjoy your morning tea, your phone checks the weather forecast for the day and notes that a rainstorm is predicted for later in the day. It realises that under these specific circumstances you’ll prefer to take the bus instead, and it thus warns you of the weather forecast and tells you two leave in twenty minutes so that you can catch the earlier

bus, so that you don’t risk getting late to that meeting.

My work is targeted at providing the building block that makes the software system learn about the users preferences by passively observing them.
