Applying for work as a casual academic in CSE

Each session, in the week before teaching begins, all senior undergraduates, academics, postgraduates, and other likely casual tutors and lab demonstrators are e-mailed letting them know the URL of the casual academic work application form.

You go to the URL, complete the on-line form and submit it.

After the closing date, the information on applicants is collated and made available to lecturers and class administrators, who express preferences for the tutors, lab demonstrators, consultants, etc. that they will be needing.

Contention for popular tutors is resolved, and then a meeting is announced, usually on Friday of week 1, to complete the necessary paperwork and induct those who are to be hired.

It is important to attend this meeting, because:

If you cannot make it to the meeting, or if you are hired late for some reason, then you should collect a blank contract form (currently from the Head of School Office - K17-104 - but this may be varied by announcements from time to time). You should then take the form to your class administrator or lecturer and they will help you to complete it. You should also take a "Sessional Pay Claim Form" (code SAL122 - available from racks outside the School Student Office and they will help you complete that, and sign off on both forms.
