This is to announce a School bushwalk on Saturday September 22. This is the Saturday after week 9 at the start of the mid-session break.

I'm helping Bill Wilson with the organization. The walk Bill has picked out is to Marley in Royal National Park. The purpose of this e-mail is to get an rough idea of the number of people who will take part, so we can plan better.

First, a few more details. Royal National Park is about 25km south of UNSW. We expect most people will drive, access by public transport is not straighforard but may be possible. We will leave the cars and walk roughly 3km along a track to the coast. There we'll eat lunch at the beach, explore the area or what ever activities people want to do and eventually return to the cars by the same route.

The walk is not difficult and will take perhaps an hour. We will organize groups so you don't have to worry about navigation. Avoid my group if you don't want every species of plant and animal pointed out and named [Bill knows this stuff too but you'll probably have to ask].

The more intrepid can make there own way there and there are several longer routes you might use [but figuring that out is up to you].

The location has been chosen to be suitable for children. Although children under school age may need to be carried part or all of the way in and out - you'll have to decide if that's practical. [My 2 year old daughter will be coming in a backpack]

All staff are invited. We would have liked to invite research students but haven't (at this stage) because we are worried about numbers.

Anyway if you definitely/probably/possibly want to come would you fill in the form at http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/cgi-bin/bushwalk.cgi so we can get a rough idea of numbers.

Much more information including directions, a printable map, what you need to wear, what you need to bring, phone numbers etc, will be sent in later e-mail.
