The UNSW Bioinformatics Students Society was founded by Ajinka Joshi and Charles Wang in November 2002 . Since then, Binfsoc has evolved its focus not only to provide academic and mentor support to Binfers, but also fun-filled events such as indoor soccer, badminton, tennis, BBQs, laser tag and movie nights to all students of CSE.

2007 will see more social events, including cross society bowling competitions and weekly soccer games. Binfsoc will also assist its members in academic and career areas, providing guidance towards their industries of interest.
