The aim was to build a knowledge-based simulator to help diabetics to learn how to control their condition. The diabetic can input his or her diet and exercise patterns and test different doses of insulin to learn the correct regime. It was shown that a knowledge-based simulator is more realistic than previous numerical simulation methods. The Garvan Institute received a contract to commercialise the system.
