Please consult the webpage of the exams branch for details about the time and location of this year's COMP1011 exam.
The COMP1011 2001 midsession exam (multiple choice exam) and the COMP1011 1997 and 1998 final exam are available below. Some COMP1011 exams are available in the library. Note that the 1997 exam contains questions about subjects we did not cover this year (e.g., Questions 6 -9, 11-14); the same hold for the 1998 exam. On the other hand, you can expect questions about other subjects, like modules, formal reasoning, work complexity, and trees in the 2005 exam.
Here is an overview of the 2005 exam. It is only a guide - read the instructions on the paper itself carefully. The 2005 exam has 4 parts:
Marks are awarded for following instructions. Read the instructions carefully.
The 2001 mid-session exam should give you an idea of what sort of multiple-choice questions you can expect. However, please consider that, as this was a mid-session exam, it doesn't cover the entirety of the course material. Don't look at answers before you have tried to solve this sample exam under exmination-like conditions (only 1h time). This should give you an idea of were you stand w.r.t. to the material of the first half of the course.
Here are the pages of the 1997 COMP1011 exam.
(I've put it up here on the web as it's not available
from the library.)
This exam contains questions about HTML and list comprehensions.
We did not cover these, so
there will not be questions on this on the exam we give you.

Warning: Some of the programming questions in the sample exam are quite hard (especially the last one). I expect that you find the programming questions of the 2005 exam less challenging.
The 1998 final exam also contains questions about topics that we did not cover this year (e.g., list comprehensions and ADTs). Please disregard them.
Warning: Some of the programming questions in the sample exam are quite hard (especially the last one). I expect that you find the programming questions of the 20055555 exam less challenging.
