11-jul Results have now been released.  Congratulations to
       all for a great performance - it was very pleasing 
       to mark the exams.  I have really enjoyed this past 
       semester and you should all be very proud of what 
       you have done.

       I'll be running a course post mortem at the end of 
       week 0.  All interested students are welcome to 
       attend to observe or to contribute.  Keep your eyes 
       on the wiki where i'll be posting all the deliberations
       and conclusions over the next fortnight.  Thank you 
       to all who have filled in the on-line course feedback
       form - I appreciate you taking the time to give us
       your comments and suggestions.  If you haven't done
       it yet I would love it if you did fill it in and in
       particular if you provide comments and suggestions.
 
       Those students who need to sit the supplimentary exam
       have been given the grade WD "Withheld".  The school
       office will be contacting you shortly with the details
       of the sup exam.  Because we do not wish to annoy the
       pope I expect the exam will be held after he leaves
       but you need to contact the CSE school office for all 
       the official information about sup exams.
  
       We are gradually working through the submitted work
       looking for cases of plagiarism.  If you have submitted 
       work which is not your own or your shared work with 
       another student your grade is converted to WD withheld
       and you are sent an email (to your university email 
       address) advising you.  To avoid a formal plagiarism 
       investigation you need to respond to that email 
       promptly with a frank email explaining what happened.
       I strongly advise you to write a full and frank
       response as quickly as possible which also shows 
       remorse and work hard to resolve the problem before it 
       escalates into a formal investigation.

       I'd like to thank the tutors who have worked hard and
       with dedication to help you this semester.  They have
       worked hard and with great care.  Thanks to you all 
       for taking such care of your students.

       I wish you all a happy relaxing break and a great time 
       in 1927.  I look forward to seeing you again in future 
       courses!

19-jun Exam instructions are linked below if you want to check 
       them out in advance.

19-jun The exam section wish to hand out the textbooks 
       themselves so you'll get those given to you in the exam
       along with the exam papers.  This means I won't be 
       there in the exam room.  So instead I'll stay on the 
       forum till the last instant incase there are any last 
       minute queries.  All the very best for the exam and
       thanks for being such a great bunch.  I'm very proud
       of all of you and of what you have achieved in 12 
       weeks.  Well done and I look forward to seeing you

16-jun The 3 videos from the review session today are available 
       at https://mirror.cse.unsw.edu.au/pub/richardb/
       Use your web browser to download the .mov files
       Warning: they are BIG files - about 1 GB each.
       OR
       If you are on campus you can save your home download
       quota and burn them to dvds in the mac terminal labs
       using the command 
         priv cdrom burn
       then select option 
         1. burn image from cse mirror
       then enter the path to the iso image eg 
         /home/mirror/pub/richardb/exam-review-1.iso

16-jun Exam revision and general q&a today (monday) 3pm - 6pm,
       or later if there is demand.  Bring along any questions
       you have.  We've booked rex vowels - but if there is any
       trouble getting access we'll use the level 1 meeting room
       in K17.

       be accepted after 4pm today.

22-apr Consultations for teaching, task2 and project are available
       from this week until end of session. Check the consultations
       page under where+where.

20-apr Tutes and labs for week 6 are available from the schedule.
       
12-apr I've been quite ill since the last lecture and have not
       done much work.  I'm dosed up on antibiotics and meds 
       and starting to feel better, just in time to leave for 
       HKong.
       
       This means I'm late getting the tutes and labs up and 
       have not been active on the forum.  I'm very sorry 
       about that.  I expect I'll get internet access in HK so
       I'll be able to start catching up in the down times over
       there.  I'll also make sure I get tutes and labs up in 
       some form tonight and tim and I have discussed them in
       enough detail that he'll be able to fill in any gaps 
       (and improve them!) after that.  
 
       Thank you to everyone who has been so kind and suggested
       places to go and things to see in hong kong by forum and
       by email.  I am just starting to read these suggestions 
       now and they seem wonderful.  Thank you for going to this
       trouble for me!  I haven't thanked anyone personally yet
       as my work backlog is a bit overwhelming, please forgive
       any delay in me doing this.
 
       I've written some revision and practise exercises for those
       wanting more for machine code, i'll develop and post those
       in hong kong, and i hope to do the same for some sample c
       exercises.  Again please excuse the unexpected delay in me
       doing all this.  

       Finally, please extend every curtesy to tim and malcolm as 
       they take the lectures next week.  They are helping out out
       of the kindness of their hearts rather than because they 
       have to.  They are both very very clever computer scientists
       and also caring teachers so i'm feeling very lucky that
       they both were prepared to step in and help out while i 
       had to be away.  It is hard to step into someone elses's
       course in the middle of everything so please do be gentle 
       with them.  thanks guys!  i'm looking forward to getting back
       and seeing you all again in week 6.

04-apr Assignment 1 due today.  best of luck to all and congrats
       on the effort you have all put in!  

04-apr Week 4 tute presentation question is up in draft form
       (it depends on the final 8919 chip design but should be
       pretty stable).  Presentation pairs might want to 
       prepare before the night before their tute.

26-mar if you have *any* questions about task 1 please feel free
       to come along to an assignment consult.  we are running 
       these every week day - you get to ask questions and one on
       one help.  they won't do the assignment for you but 
       they'll help you with your coding or understanding problems
       as much as they can.  see the "consults" link on the 
       where+when page (below)

20-mar I've made some demo vids of me coding using the material 
       from week2 lectures, tutes, and labs.  I've also included
       some topics we didn't get to which might help you over 
       the break working on task einn.  All such resources (incl
       the live lecture recordings) can be accessed via the 
       schedule so keep an eye on it.

       PS I'm getting the codings vids smaller the more I 
       practise.  The first is 90M (sorry!), the next is just 
       16M (better!)
 
19-mar Lower res version of lecture videos is now available on 
       utube.  Link on forum.

19-mar We'll have a review lecture in the break for any new 
       programmers with c questions or task1 problems.  Probably 
       next wed (26th) 1-3 Rex Vowels.  Updated details on stop 
       press (i.e. here) if we have to change time or place. We
       plan to record it and release asap (no promises but it
       looks pretty hopeful) so should be safe to miss it unless
       you are really keen.  Next week i'll ask you to post your
       questions and areas you are having problems with on the
       forum so we can plan what to cover in the review lecture.
       Don't post now tho, wait till asked on the forum, as you'll
       probably find many of the problems you are having now will 
       vanish after a bit or work/research/practise/thought (to
       be replaced with new ones!)

17-mar Task 1 draft spec is now available for your viewing
       pleasure.

17-mar The first (experimental) videos of the lectures are now 
       available (see link below).  You'll need the (free) iTunes
       player or equivalent to view them.  Have fun!  Please post
       in the forum to let us know if you think this is helpful.
       PS We are still fooling around with You-tube - keep your 
       eyes here for more news as it arises.

07-Mar Our lectures are all in Rex-Vowels NOT Biomed as the uni timetable
       was stating for a few weeks.  If you printed out your timetable
       a while ago please print a new one shortly before lectures start
       in case other things have changed also.  See you all Monday 11am

06-Mar There is another lab 0 session running right after the Monday 
       week 1 lecture if you haven't attended one yet.  See where+when

13-Feb  Welcome to COMP1917!  We'll be having a lot of fun together 
        over the next few months and you'll be proud of the useful 
        skills you acquire.

        I'll be setting up this site over the rest of this week so 
        feel free to keep checking it out as it grows.

        I'll be putting in a section on whether you should pick 1917
        or 1911, the clourse info page, and info on what you can do
        to prepare (you will need to do some stuff in or before 
        week 0).

        Also if you are a repeating student we have some special
        programs for you - see the FAQ about this too.
           
        I'm looking forward to this semester, we've got lots of great 
        things planned.  See you in week 0.
