Tute ∞+1

To ask questions related to their supplementary exam preparation students may want to attend the extra tute session Friday 2008/11/28 14:00. I plan to snarf room B01 in the basement of K17, the CSE building. If that fails, there'll be a redirection sign on the door of that room.

No information about the supplementary exam content will be dispensed during that tute.

Wrapping up for 08s2

After finally typing up my assignment 1 assessments, copying assignment marks to homework group partners, tallying survey bonus marks and LLBs, it was finally time to add it all up. The results aren't too bad, except perhaps for the few poor souls who didn't take the 50% exam hurdle. The final mark distribution was calculated over all who sat the final exam. It suggests that the LLB lifted us in positive WAM-diff territory. The average WAM in this course is 2 higher than the overall average WAM.

Assignment 1 marking transcripts are now available for those who submitted via the usual <kbd>3151 classrun -collect ass1</kbd>. (The mark distribution.)
Final marks, ranks, grades etc. can be checked with <kbd>3151 classrun sturec</kbd>.
Some of those who sat the exam already but didn't quite make it have grades WD and will be offered a make-up exam that will take place during the CSE supplementary exam 8:45-12 on December 3rd.
17/18 students filled in the survey in time. I'll publish something once I've heard from Rupert.

Survey

The invitations for the survey mentioned in the subject intro have been sent to your CSE email addresses as they are known to the survey system. Those emails contain a link to the survey plus login/passwd combinations for the survey system. Deadline: Thursday 2008/11/20 2pm.

Marks

To keep up-to-date regarding the marks for assessable components, you may want to watch this forum topic where I shall keep posting updates as they arise. It does not make a lot of sense yet to interpret the FinalExam and the RawFinal fields of your <kbd>3151 classrun -collect sturec</kbd>.

Tute ∞

To ask questions related to their exam preparation students may want to attend the extra tute session Friday 2008/10/31 14:00. I plan to snarf room B01 in the basement of K17, the CSE building. If that fails, there'll be a redirection sign on the door of that room. This tute is neither compulsory nor relevant to the tute participation mark.

No information about the exam content beyond what was said in the last lecture and written in the slides for that lecture will be dispensed during that tute.

Taste of Research summer scholarships

This could be a fun, challenging, and rewarding way to spend part of your summer while at the same time avoiding skin cancer. There certainly are some exciting topics available. Since I'm not eligible, do me a favour and have a go in my place.

Do not give up just because you think your marks aren't quite good enough to be competitive for these scholarships. Many of the supervisors have other sources of funds they'd be more than happy to use for well-matching students.

application deadline is 2008/09/30

Lecture times, calendars, and scatter-brained lecturers

Note to self: the Friday lecture is at 2 not 3.

Apologies! Every COMP3151 or COMP9151 student is entitled to a 1h make-up lecture to compensate for my lapse today.

This mishap taught me that I need the COMP3151 calendar more than anyone else.

Timetabling trouble

Despite my sincerest efforts to avoid clashes with other interesting subjects quite the opposite has happened. That makes me wonder why I even bother to fill in certain online forms with detailed lists of don't clash with these ffs! subjects. (Central timetabling always does this it seems.) If you're interested in taking this subject but experience clashes with other subjects, please drop me an email with a list of classes you intend to take in 08s2.

ffs = fabulous, fantastic, & substantial
