= Strategy And Tactics =

This page discusses current and possible future tactics and strategies for rUNSWift.

== What are they? ==
Strategy and tactics are two different things. The distinction is mainly one of scale - strategy refers to a longer and larger scale than tactics. Will's definition is that strategy is what your superior thinks about, tactics are what your subordinates think about. The dogs are definitely subordinates.

A strategy is a plan or method that is executed over a long period of time, e.g. a half or an entire game, and usually affect the whole team. An example !RoboCup strategy might be for the team to attack heavily for the first 8 minutes and then, if winning, fall back into defense. Strategies are probably not relevant to legged !RoboCup yet - six-year-olds don't think ahead.

A tactic, on the other hand, is something that is executed over a short period of time, with a definite aim. Tactics may involve a single robot or the whole team. Example !RoboCup tactics might include marking opposition players when not in possesion, having a supporting player close in when attacking, aiming kicks toward the sideline in the defending half, and towards the goal in the attacking half etc. Tactics are very important to legged !RoboCup.
