Why COMP3441 has a quota

We have a strict quota on enrollments in this subject because of limited lab and seminar places and we can't accept over-enrolments.

Last year the subject was popular and filled up quickly. A number of keen students missed out on places. This year, to prevent the enrollment processes turning into a race we have initially given the subject high entry criteria. In summary (see the subject stopPress for the full details) you will need to have a good grade in COMP3331 Networks, or a very good grade in other subjects, to be able to enrol.

We do not expect that the subject will fill up under these initial restrictions. In first session we will then relax the subject prerequisites and any remaining places will then be filled on a first come first served basis.

What to do if COMP3441 fills up

We expect some students may drop out of the subject before session 2 starts. So there is some chance you may be able to get into the subject eventually. You should keep trying to enrol via nss from time to time to see if you are allowed in.

We are not keeping a waiting list this year as all enrolments are to be done via nss online. If a student disenrolls and leaves a gap in the NSS database then the first student to notice it will be able to enrol online. Sorry - that's just how nss works.

Last year some over-enthusiastic admin staff overrode the class limits and permitted some students to enroll even after the subject was full. Be aware that in such cases we reverse the enrollment and disenroll such students.
