Other Memory Models

Modern hardware features can interfere with store order:

  • write buffer (or store buffer or write-behind buffer),
  • instruction reordering,
  • superscalar execution,
  • pipelining.
Each CPU keeps its own data consistent, but how about others?

  • SMP?
  • DMA?
