Bath

Bath, in south-west England, is set on the site of an old Roman spa resort based on the only hot springs in the UK. The town was very popular with English nobility from the 16th century on, though most of the architecture dates from the 18th and 19th centuries. There are some spectacular arrays of magnificent terraces, as well as the famous "hanging toilets" of Bath (flimsy wooden appendages where new-fangled flushing loos were added to the sides of the buildings, sometimes several floors up). The whole place has a very Jane Austen feel.
