Tate Galleries, London

The Tate Gallery of Modern Art ("Tate Modern" to its friends), located in a former power-station building next to the Thames, houses one of best collections of modern art in the world. It's also the most visited art gallery in the world (around 5 million visitors each year) ... maybe because it's free entry. Modern art is a mixed blessing ... some pieces are brilliant, clever observations on the world or the human condition ... others look like paint splattered on canvas. There are in fact multiple Tate Galleries scattered around London. Apart from Tate Modern, the other notable one is Tate Britain which houses works by both classical and modern British Artists ... and some quite nice photographs too.
