Glasgow West End

[Back]

The West End, where the University is located, is described as a "bohemian" neighbourhood, possibly due to the presence of many (a) students, (b) pubs, (c) restaurants. The main street in the West End is Byres Road, which even has its own web site. The West End has always had a reputation for being a bit "posh", partially attributed to its location which means that the prevailing winds blow the city smells away from the area (certainly a problem in the 19th century). Nowadays, it still has expensive property prices and an expected life-span that's significantly higher than the rest of the city (not sure whether/how the two are related).
