A scene (aka shot) is:

• a sequence of still images (frames)

• showing continuous action, from a single viewpoint

All access to the database occurs in "units" of scenes.

A video query:

• specifies properties of the required scenes

• returns a set of scene identifiers

The user is presented with a thumbnail of each matching scene, and then performs further manual filtering (a la QBIC).
