ABOUT J-Club
Who Are We?
J-Club is a social club that provides an opportunity for people with an interest in Japan or speaking Japanese to meet and interact with Japanese people in a casual environment. It helps improve Japanese conversational skills as well as forming friendships. We invite Japanese people from outside the Uni to join us each week.

History of J-Club by Brad Hall Back to the top
J-club originated back in the late 1980's as the Nihongo Club. In 1991 I was the president and we changed the name to Japsoc, as that is what everyone was calling it anyway. It was in those days that we started the weekly meetings - usually at lunch time. It was also back then that we started the tradition of going to the Uni Bar and missing all out Wednesday afternoon lectures! But the Uni Bar also turned out to be a great place to learn Japanese - the relaxed atmosphere is great. I think the club had no activities in the late 1990's, but in 2000 it was re-born with a few outings to JuJu's. We changed the name to the more modern "J-Club" in 2001. During that year we had a meeting every week of session, some BBQ's, JuJu's nights and a tour to the Blue Mountains.
Over the years, J-Club has improved many people's Japanese, introduced people who have become life long friends, and started several romantic relationships - one of which even lead to a marriage! Several ex-members are now working and living in Japan.
