Appalachian School of Law Shootings http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~lambert/guns/appalachian News Stories in the week after the Appalachian School of Law Shootings en Daily Star http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~lambert/guns/appalachian/2002/01/17#192 <p><span class="normal">A GUN-toting student killed three people and wounded three others last night after running amok at a US college.</span></p> <p><span class="normal"></span><span class="tackle">Brave students at the law college wrestled him to the ground.</span><span class="normal"> He struck after bursting into a common room at Appalachian School of Law, Grundy, Virginia.</span></p> <p><span class="normal">The dead included the college&#8217;s dean, Anthony Sutin, a second member of staff and a student.</span></p> <p><span class="normal">The killer, thought to have been angry with staff, used a .380 semiautomatic handgun.</span></p> <p><span class="normal">Police, ambulances and counsellors rushed to the scene as the college was evacuated.</span></p> <p><span class="normal">The three injured were taken to hospital.</span></p> <p><span class="normal">Staff member Alicia O&#8217;Quin said: &#8220;This is usually a very quiet campus, very intimate.&#8221;</span></p> <p><span class="normal"></span><span class="tackle">State Governor Mark Warner&#8217;s spokeswoman said: &#8220;Students bravely tackled the gunman.</span><span class="normal"></span></p> <p><span class="normal">&#8220;But we do not know the gunman&#8217;s motives at this time.&#8221;</span></p> <p><span class="normal">Police arrested the suspect after students held him down until they arrived.</span></p> <p><span class="normal"></span></p>
