Appalachian School of Law Shootings http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~lambert/guns/appalachian News Stories in the week after the Appalachian School of Law Shootings en EFE News Service http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~lambert/guns/appalachian/2002/01/16#282 <p><span class="normal">Washington, Jan 16 (EFE).- Three people were killed and three others wounded Wednesday in a shooting at Appalachian School of Law in Grundy, Virginia, authorities said.</span></p> <p><span class="normal">A spokesman for the Virginia governor&#8217;s office told reporters that according to initial reports, one of the victims was Anthony Sutton, dean of the law school, whose name appears as Sutin on the institution&#8217;s Internet Web site.</span></p> <p><span class="normal"></span><span class="tackle">It appears the perpetrator, whose motives for the shooting remain unclear, was overpowered and detained by students.</span><span class="normal"></span></p> <p><span class="normal">Among those who were killed in the incident were a student, an instructor and Sutton, according to Ellen Qualls, a spokeswoman for Virginia Gov. Mark Warner, a former member of the law school&#8217;s board of directors.</span></p> <p><span class="normal">Five or six people were shot, according to authorities from the southwestern Virginia town of Grundy, who added that the situation is under control.</span></p> <p><span class="normal">The wounded were rushed to an area hospital, where they were receiving treatment, authorities noted.</span></p> <p><span class="normal">According to Qualls, at least three students were treated at the hospital for gunshot wounds.</span></p> <p><span class="normal"></span></p>
