Welcome Message from Workshop Chair

Wireless networks will play a pivotal role in fulfilling the long cherished dream of ubiquitous and pervasive computing. Despite the recent downturn in the Information Technology and Telecommunication sectors, research in this exciting field of wireless and mobile networks remains as strong as ever. Researchers from all over the world are investigating wireless networking solutions for a wide range of computing and communication environments. Because of this overwhelming significance and interests in wireless networking, a whole day of ICON2003 was dedicated to pure wireless activities under the banner of wireless workshop.

An exciting one-day wireless program has been lined up for this workshop. An entertaining keynote speech by a leading industry expert opens the workshop in the morning followed by eight technical sessions in two parallel streams. The session topics cover a diverse range of topical wireless research areas, including Ad-hoc Networks, Wireless LANs, Mobile IP, Bluetooth, and Sensor Networks. The workshop is finally wrapped up by a stimulating wireless panel session in the evening, where the audience gets an opportunity to take part in discussions with internationally recognised panel members.

It should be noted that unlike many other workshops, which are organised as independent entities, this workshop was organised as an integral part of ICON2003. The focus of this workshop was to promote wireless activities in the conference. All papers scheduled on the workshop day went through the same double-blind review process that was applied to any other paper scheduled on any other day of the conference. As such, from the citation point of view, all papers published in this proceeding have identical archival value. The TPC provided the needed expertise to handle reviews of all wireless papers. I take this opportunity to thank the TPC members and all reviewers for their valuable time and expertise.

I hope that your participation in the workshop will create a vibrant atmosphere and provide opportunities to create new networks of colleagues in wireless networking. September-October is a great time to spend in this coastal city of Sydney, and I am sure you will enjoy your visit to the fullest extent. See you there.
