Interactive Use

When used interactively, ae prompts for a command and, once it has read a complete command, it executes it. While entering a command, it is possible to edit parts of the command already entered, even to the extent of recalling earlier lines of a multi-line command. It is also possible to insert part (or all) of a previous command in the current command, and to find out what files names exist with a given prefix. This functionality is further described under Editing and History below.

Another feature of interactive usage is the ability to suspend running jobs, and to continue them later, either in the foreground or the background. This is detailed under Job Control.

Finally, when used interactively, events that would otherwise cause ae to terminate, such as a syntax error or an interrupt, cause ae to prompt for a new command instead.
