This page is a repository of information on printed circuit board creation at the School of Computer Science and Engineering, at the University of New South Wales. It focuses on hardware aspects, with less reference to software issues.

This information and the facilities it describes are only available to staff and students of the School.

Facilities

The School has an advanced PCB prototyping facility, designed and built in house. The fabrication of up to 6-layer prototype boards is possible, up to 200 x 300 mm in size, with minimum hole size of 0.3mm. More common however is the production of 2-sided PCBs. This facility allows staff and students to quickly fabricate custom PCBs for use in research and undergraduate thesis projects.

The core of the facility consists of

PCB soldering and debugging facilities include high quality viewing systems, professional soldering stations, and debugging tools including high speed oscilloscopes and logic analysers
