Wikis are a popular tool for online collaboration. They enable users to edit dicussion pages using a simple textual mark up language, which the wiki engine translates to HTML. However, given the usual markup options, mathematical text cannot be properly set. The popular wiki MoinMoin supports subscripts and superscripts, but that is rarely enough. A MoinMoin plugin for the inclusion of text rendered in LaTeX is available, but such text will be displayed as an inline image and can only be used in displays and not in the main text. It is the goal of this thesis project to extend MoinMoin with support for mathematical text, such that it can be used in both displays and the main text with support for special characters, special symbols, arrows, equations, fractions, sum-like operators, and so on.

  • You must implement basic mathematical markup for both inline use and displays including special characters and symbols, arrows, fractions, sum-like operators.
  • Your implementation must easily integrate with a standard MoinMoin installation.
• Extra tasks for the ambitious:
  • Implement advanced markup, such as equations and aligned displays.
  • Allow for easy extensibility of character and symbol sets.
  • Include support for style files that can include macro definitions for specific application domains. These would have to be installed by the wiki administrator.
