Gernot's suggested points for School new course proposal form
- Rationale: why is the new course being proposed, what are the
academic objectives, which programs/stage does it serve, why can the
same not (essentially) be achieved with existing courses, how the
proposed course relate to other courses, what overlap is there, why
is this not a problem?
- who are the potential stakeholders, who was consulted about the
proposal (inside the School as well as outside), what was the
result of that consultation
- likely enrolment (with justification), and impact on enrolments of
other courses
- justification of prerequisites (or lack thereof)
- any courses this is replacing, and why?
- anything noteworthy about delivery mode, assessment (with
justification)
- handbook entry
- indicative syllabus / overview of contents (at a level of detail
well beyond that of the handbook entry)
- effect on School resources:
- who is proposed to teach it, and what impact does it have on
their planned allocation
- number of tutors/casuals required
- impact on lab utilisation (obviously coupled with assessment)
- any other resource needs (special print/disk quota, access to
servers, access to special machines, special labs)
I'm sure Andrew can add more.
