Assessment of presentations and essays will be based on the same set of criteria, covering (roughly) content, structure, presentation and analysis. As indicated below, these can be broken down into a number of aspects (as a rough guide only!). Note that there is no specific weighting given to any particular criterion; rather the weighting each aspect contributes to the overall assessment will vary according to topic.
Competent presentation mimicking the structure and content of the paper(s) and identifying the main issues
Well structured presentation giving a clear summary of the paper(s) and showing understanding of the main points and some closely related literature
Clear, well structured presentation showing deep understanding of the issues and adopting a critical perspective on the paper(s), supporting this perspective through logical argument using appropriate evidence from the paper(s) and closely related literature
Clear, well structured presentation showing comprehensive understanding of the issues and developing a coherent, novel and insightful perspective on the paper(s), and arguing convincingly for this perspective using appropriate evidence from the paper(s) and related literature
