The University of New South Wales is a partner in Smart Services CRC (Cooperative Research Centre), a seven-year university-industry collaborative R&D programme based around architectures and techniques for delivery and personalization of Financial, Government and Media services, with major industry partners Fairfax Digital, SAP, Telstra, and the New South Wales and Queensland State Governments.

UNSW will be a leading institution in a project on Personalization, which aims to apply knowledge acquisition and data mining techniques to the personalization of services such as product search and recommendation, in conjunction with CRC industry partners representing some of the largest companies in Australia, including Fairfax Digital (smh.com.au, etc.) and SAP. These projects offer a rare opportunity to apply personalization techniques on realistic data sets to problems of contemporary industry relevance.

We are aiming to build a team of experienced researchers and programmers. Applicants should have experience in software development and an interest in one or more of: knowledge acquisition, machine learning or personal agents (or related areas). Successful applicants should be enthusiastic and adaptable, and be able to work in a team, work under pressure of deadlines, and communicate research results to industry partners.

Positions are fixed term for two years.

Applicants should systematically address the selection criteria in their application.
