Ian's best ten birds for Townsville.

1. Garganay, 15/3/92, Blakey's Crossing. (This one was not sat on and
quite
a few people got to see it).

2. Freckled Duck 16 14/6/92, borrow pits adjacent to Ross Dam, Kelso.
(About
three hundred metres from home). The previous weekend Kath
Shurcliff, Rolf
Jensen and I, drove out to Lake Toomba which is about 100 klm nth west
of
Charters Towers. The purpose of the trip was to tick Freckled Duck non
of use
having seen them before. Surprise surprise when they turned up on my
back door step the next weekend.

3. Pectoral Sandpiper 1 5/4/92, Blakey's Crossing.

4. Rajah Shelduck 4 10/8/90, Blakey's Crossing.

5. Painted Snipe 1, Ross Dam area.

6. Black-chinned Honeyeater 6, in the back yard.

7. Square-tailed Kite 3, Northern Beaches. A pair and most years a juv.
can be seen patrolling the northern beaches area during the cooler
months. My theory is they come down of the Paluma Range for the
winter.

8. Great-billed Heron 2, Three Mile Creek, Pallarenda.

9. Rufous Owl 4, breeding pair, Kelso.

10. Red-necked Avocet 6 1/11/92, Town Common.
