G'dmornin all,
Just wanted to let you know that the Wednesday night meeting at Whitehorse Council Offices, Nunawading, was a resounding success. I do not have the numbers, but my estimate would have been about 600+ people squashed into the main hall and out into the foyer. The indication from committee members is that the Government is leaning towards allocating more than the initial $255 million for the freeway, so that it can be tunnelled underground. The final decision on how the freeway is constructed will be known any day now, as the project is going out for tender in October, with construction to start November/December.
I encourage everyone to lobby and keep the pressure on the State Government, via email, letters, publicity, etc...why not even ring up Jeff on 3AW's Thursday morning talkback with Neil Mitchell. One of the committee members jokingly stated that the Government is already sick to death of the bucket loads of letters they have been receiving.
As I may have mentioned before, the area under question contains nationally significant vegetation and is a haven for the Powerful Owl.Thankyou in advance for your efforts.
Uroo, Nigel Sterpin
